CYFS Community Garden

By Nathaniel Lesch-Huie

Through action and involvement, children participating in activities such as building nature trails and planting, cultivating and harvesting a garden are learning that there are steps involved in producing outcomes relating to change and progress. Although many of the children we work with do not believe in their ability to change the outcomes of their emotional states, through engagement in challenging and multi-step hands-on projects, kids get to see as well as produce tangible results that implicate them that not only can they affect change but they can also create it for themselves and do not have to rely on any others to do it for them.

We hope to instill a belief that, despite challenging living environments or trauma impacts, they can still design a future using available resources filled with joy, happiness and positive outcomes.
